Functions of the Centre for Scholarly Scientific Training and Publishing (CSSTP) at the Office of Research and Development
The Research Centre (CSSTP) at the “Office of Research & Development” performs the following wide-ranging key functions aimed at improving the research outcomes and creating a culture of research at the Periyar Maniammai Institute of Science and Technology (Deemed to be University):
- Trains effectively the academic staff and research students on “Methodical Scientific Writing and Publishing in an Indexed Journal.”
- Conducts seminars/workshops/symposiums on a regular basis on “Basic Concepts of Scientific Writing, Communications, Statistics and Successful Scientific Publications.”
- Facilitates high quality literature search for research students and staff with the help of various resources such as PubMed/Medline, Scopus, ScienceDirect and Jane, among others.
- Performs a variety of editorial duties that include editing and producing scholarly scientific materials based on the research outcomes of academic staff and research students.
- Assists in the process of “Selection of a Pertinent Journal” based on the research outcomes and the extent of the research topic.
- Supports in overseeing all aspects of scientific publication steps including “Responding to the Editor/Reviewers,” if needed by the staff and research students.
- Monitors, analyses and motivates staff and research students periodically to produce indexed scientific publications.
- Keeps track of the Institution's scholarly accomplishments and updates the staff and research students about the most recent developments in scientific publishing.
- Coordinates, and keeps the staff and research students informed about actions related to post-scientific publication monitoring, such as "Citations" and "Field-Weighted Citation Impact" for their published papers, and their "h index,“ if necessary.
- Nominates and recommends to the Vice-Chancellor and the Registrar to award staff/research students for their high impact scientific publications and highly cited scientific papers, if any.
