The MSW Programme at Periyar Maniammai Institute
of Science and Technology (PMIST) prepares
students for entry into Professional Social Work
Practice to the Society. Our curriculum
emphasizes to develop a critical analysis,
understanding and commitment to advanced Social
Work methods and practice. The MSW earned by
completing the sequences of courses in
accordance with the standards of UGC’s outcome
based education, the accrediting body. The last
requirement, field based education is the most
distinguishing feature of advanced Master Degree
in Social Work. All MSW students are required to
apply their academic training within a
professional setting. The PMIST, MSW students
complete a combined total of 82 credits, of
which 48 credits come from coursework and
electives and 24 credits (almost half) from
field based education. In addition one Non Major
common elective course with 2 credits and
Research project with 8 credits
