  • Dean (Learning and Development) plays a crucial role in fostering a conducive learning environment and ensuring the holistic development of students. The Dean is responsible for enhancing students' academic, professional, and personal growth by implementing innovative learning methodologies, promoting skill development, and ensuring industry-aligned career progression. Working in concurrence with the Dean (Academic Courses), the Dean strengthens the academic ecosystem and develops strategies to prepare students for successful careers.

Roles and Responsibilities of Dean

  • The Dean (Learning and Development) at Periyar Maniammai Institute of Science & Technology plays a crucial role in fostering a conducive learning environment and ensuring the holistic development of students. The Dean is responsible for enhancing students' academic, professional, and personal growth by implementing innovative learning methodologies, promoting skill development, and ensuring industry-aligned career progression. Working in concurrence with the Dean (Academic Courses), the Dean strengthens the academic ecosystem and develops strategies to prepare students for successful careers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Facilitate a student-centric learning environment that nurtures critical thinking, problem-solving, and creativity.
  • Ensure integration of technology-enabled learning methodologies, including blended and online learning, to improve accessibility and engagement.
  • Encourage faculty to adopt innovative teaching techniques such as active learning, flipped classrooms, experiential learning, and project-based learning.
  • Promote the use of AI, Virtual Reality (VR), and Augmented Reality (AR) to create immersive and interactive learning experiences.
  • Facilitate peer-assisted learning and mentoring programmes to support collaboration and academic growth.
  • Ensure all academic programmes are designed in alignment with Outcome-Based Education and Bloom's Taxonomy.
  • Oversee the periodic revision of course and programme outcomes to meet industry requirements and accreditation standards (NAAC, NBA, etc.).
  • Implement continuous assessment and feedback mechanisms to monitor and improve student progress.
  • Develop structured career counselling programmes aligned with industry trends and opportunities.
  • Coordinate with the Career Guidance and Placement Cell to facilitate internships and job placements.
  • Organize programmes on soft skills, communication, leadership, and entrepreneurship to enhance employability.
  • Promote internships, apprenticeships, and industry collaborations for hands-on experience.
  • Implement a Student Mentorship Programme where faculty guide students on academic and career pathways.
  • Address academic challenges and student grievances, ensuring a supportive learning environment.
  • Support students from diverse backgrounds, including those with special needs, through tailored interventions.
  • Encourage enrolment in value-added certification courses and skill-based learning programmes.
  • Promote interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary learning opportunities.
  • Collaborate with ED-TECH platforms such as NPTEL, Coursera, and SWAYAM to expand online learning resources.
  • Coordinate with the Director (Research) to establish MoUs with corporates, start-ups, and research institutions.
  • Organize guest lectures, workshops, and industry visits to bridge academia and industry.
  • Facilitate faculty-industry collaborations to integrate real-world applications into curricula.
  • Promote an entrepreneurial mind-set by supporting incubation centres and business competitions.
  • Work closely with innovation and entrepreneurship cells to encourage student-led start-ups.
  • Ensure adoption of Learning Management Systems (LMS) for digital learning and content management.
  • Oversee the development of digital repositories, e-content, and virtual labs.
  • Utilize AI and data-driven approaches to personalize student learning pathways.
  • Enhance digital library resources by integrating global repositories.
  • Promote the use of open educational resources and research databases.
  • Facilitate reading clubs, academic writing programmes, and research skill workshops.
  • Support mental health and well-being initiatives through counselling and stress management workshops.
  • Organize leadership and personality development programmes to build confidence and self-awareness.
  • Promote ethical and value-based education to instil social responsibility.
  • Develop policies, in concurrence with the Dean (Academic Courses), to ensure diversity and inclusivity.
  • Encourage student participation in community service and sustainability initiatives.
  • Facilitate global exposure through student exchange programmes, international collaborations, and research projects.
  • Ensure all learning and development initiatives align with NAAC, NBA, and UGC guidelines.
  • Conduct annual reviews of initiatives and recommend necessary improvements.
  • Implement student feedback mechanisms to assess satisfaction and learning outcomes, ensuring continuous improvement.
